Neverwinter Presents

709 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Jubilee
Location: Silk and Shadows, DS5.
Timeline: Day One

Curtis wasn’t sure how he’d gotten this detail, but he was fairly sure Tempest was a sneaky bitch. Arms folded he watched as a group of elves…fairies...ACTORS were calling themselves as they bustled around DS5’s newest attraction, Silk and Shadow.

Attraction, he mused as he watched pixies??? He thought he’d been wearing gossamer wings and anti-grav, high heel boots?? Installing a whole assortment of gantries, lighting, and truly massive speakers.

“We will open tonight, Commander,” A dusky, rich feminine voice said next to him. He turned and the petite, improbably pale female romulan manager for Neverwinter Nights latest venture said. “What do you think of my costume?”

Emni smiled and turned slowly, letting the tall good looking (boring) human a look. For her roll as majordomo of the nightclub that night, she’d applied slightly luminescent body makeup, purple velvet and leather bustier/corset/ dress that showed only nearly everything. Knee high, six inch stiletto heeled boots, a waist length white wig that had weavings of gold and silver chains dropping from a circlet that dripped in blood-rubies, and lavender contacts that glowed and changed color.

Curtis noticed the back of Emni’s outfit looked a little thicker along the spine and was about to ask when she confronted him, struck a pose and four spindly spider like legs sprung out and twitched slightly in the air as they sorted themselves. The legs even looked real…each was hairy and chitinous looking, twitching to some random order though he suspected they were set to automatically keep her balanced.

The low cut of her outfit made him think that counterweights and padding the whole bit would have taken some engineering to accomplish.

And that Curtis was possibly in the wrong career path….

“Nice,” he said, pointedly looking her over from toe to crown. “And the outfits not bad.”

Emni purred at that and said, “Oh. You’ll do.” Then she grinned and said, “And, watch this. Her contacts flashed red, just for a second as she activated her swarm

As he watched, movement all along her outfit and maybe skin took his attention and miniature spiders began crawling randomly all over her.

His own skin crawled just watching it.

“Um,” he said, then stared as one of the spiders appeared to crawl into her eye…then her whole costume shifted and he realized her clothing was actually thousands of spiders.

Laughing at the Commander’s open mouth, she said in a silkily evil voice, “I am, after all the Queen of Spiders, love.”

Curtis snapped his mouth shut and wondered again how he had gotten this detail.

Emni shut down the spiders, retracted the spider legs and said, “With some webbing, we’ll have the spot open for a soft opening tonight. Over the next few months, we’ll open the other night-clubs, starting with The Brine and Brass and Deceivers. The Maze will take a chunk of the deck, but that will have some of the escape rooms, VIP lounges, more family orientated attractions of course.

Curtis eyed the pair of… Drow?? had she called them, performers dragging a small, ancient looking cart of manacles and assorted dungeon-ware toward a corner that apparently needed work and raised an eyebrow back at Emni.

“Family orientated…yeah. I can see that,” he said dryly.

She giggled and then shrugged with arms extended. “Not here, silly,” she said. “But the kiddos will all like dressing up and going on a treasure hunt through the maze and some of the amusement rides. Which reminds me, the boss wanted me to ask if you think the Commodore could spare another deck? Or at least expansion space so we could get the ferris wheel in ?”

Curtis just managed not to twitch and shook his head. “I doubt…but we can always ask, maybe… I think we need to get the Commodore and XO down here,” he hedged.

“VIP lounge is all set and ready,” Emni enthused. “Hot and cold running blood slaves of their choice.”

“Sounds about right,” Curtis murmured.
